the evening. cooler air filters into the state on tuesday with highs only in the 50s for the rest of the week. first on 13... two people are recovering this morning after a car went flying into a garage. police say it started when a stolen car went off the roadway. it happened around 9-30 last night at the intersection of ovid and second avenue in des moines. police were chasing the stolen vehicle when it hit a telephone pole... and crashed into the garage. two people in the car were sent to the hospital. no word on their conditions or any arrests as of this morning. benton county authorities are investigating a mysterious death this morning. a woman's body was found yesterday on a trail near shellsburg. it started when a neighbor discovered his uck had been stolen. he found it, crashed on the 59th street trail. he also found blood...

woman's body. the man says he believes the person who stole the vehicle was dating the victim... and it appears there was some sort of struggle. no word on any arrests this morning. officers with the iowa and illinois d- n-r are on the search this morning for a missing boater... they say the 50-year old fell off a boat on the mississippi river. it happened saturday night near the town of buffalo... that's about 15 minutes southwest of davenport. officers conducted extensive searches yesterday using sonar, but were unsuccessful. "tomorrow we'll have someone on the water all day long pretty much doing searches and then we will continue throughout the week as we can with searches. its hard to pull man power to run 8 hour shift every day." police say several other people were on the boat... but none of them saw the man fall in. police have yet to say what caused the

a southeast iowa girl who was at the center of a weekend amber alert is back home today... 13-year old paige johnstone of ottumwa was reported missing from her home friday night. saturday authorities triggered an amber alert. about two hours later... police pulled over 19-year-old kevin ramirez in georgia. they found the girl in his truck un- harmed. he is being charged with child stealing and enticing of a minor. both are felonies with cold weather coming, the des moines parks department is setting aside time to prepare. crews took advantage of the warmer weather over the weekend to get a start on the winterizing process. that includes shutting off all the water, flushing irrigation lines and around 2 weeks to prep the city's 70 parks. the department says if you're planning on

"again, the parks are still open for people to use. we just ask if they plan ahead. if you are going to be out, take your water with you. we have portable restrooms out there. we are just closing everything down. we are just making sure no parks get pipe damage.that is an expensive thing for us to fix.," fletcher says because they got jump start, it'll save the city some money on its maintenance budget. they expect to finish things up early this week. the end of harvest season is in sight... and the outlook has farmers smiling. after a wet growing season... some had their doubts. but a relatively dry fall up until this point, has left farmers happy with their yields. some say they're pulling in 10-percent more than expected.. and their crops are better than they have been in the last 10 years. the biggest concern is now grain prices. "we would like to have high yields and high values for that crop, but with proper risk management, hopefully you can maintain and live to

as harvest wraps up, drivers are reminded to look out for slow moving machinery. another group spent the weekend focused on feeding iowans this weekend. union park united methodist church held a concert and potluck yesterday. all money went to help the "des moines religious council's food pantry" hand out meals. the pantry is expected to help some 15-thousand people this year. that's more than ever before. the church was hoping to raise 5 - thousand dollars with the event, but it doubled its goal weve raised, idk were pretty close to 85 hundred dollars. i'm thinking that by the time we close the account we will be between 9 thousand and 10 thousand dollars in just wonderful people stepping up and sharing their talents the food pantry is asking for donations of both food and cash. the iowa hawkeyes have improved their position without lifting

a finger... they had a bye week on saturday but still moved up in the national rankings. they are now tenth overall, and this is the first time in 5 years the hawkeyes have cracked the top 10. losses by utah and florida state paved the way for the jump. last time iowa took the field they smacked down northwestern in evanston, 40-10. here is a look at the remaining schedule. 3 at home, 2 on the road. no ranked teams left. that has many fans dreaming of a perfect 12-0 finish. this week maryland visits iowa city. the hawkeyes are an early 16-point favorite. meanwhile... not such a great forecast for the iowa state cyclones. they fell to number two baylor saturday, though it wasn't nearly as ugly as most people expected. the cyclones played well in the second half, with ankeny's joel lanning throwing three touchdown passes. iowa state still fell by eighteen, 45-27. they'll host texas this saturday in ames. kickoff is set for 6

was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time... but her attorney says it may have been an illness. four people were killed, including a two-year-old boy. chambers now faces four counts of second-degree murder. another college campus was locked down overnight... police at north carolina central university temporarily locked down the campus late last night after reports of an active shooter on campus. authorities say a student was shot and taken to the hospital. they are expected to recover. people in houston are capping a night of flooding with several water rescues early this morning. here's footage from houston. fire officials say multiple cars became submerged while trying to drive below an underpass. a record amount of rainfall fell there yesterday. some areas saw upwards of a foot of rain. luckily, no injuries were reported. a canadian town got into the holiday spirit a little early... all for one little boy.
